Essay on Technology Negatively Affects Children - 1180 Words
The current generation of children is completely different than the preceding ones. They are living in the digital age. ââ¬Å"Technology has blended in with daily activity to become a way of life and children today take for granted all of which is automated. That causes the ââ¬Å"pretendersâ⬠to lose touch with their personal identity and reality. It also causes the youth that they chat with to falsely learn about people. How could you possibly have strong relationships with people that you donââ¬â¢t really know accurate information about? (paragraph) Children used to actually talk to their real life friends. For todayââ¬â¢s teenagers and preteens, the give and take of friendship seems to be conducted increasingly in the abbreviated snatches of cell phones texts, or through social networking sites like Face book. The question on researcherââ¬â¢s minds is whether the quality of their interactions is being diminished without the intimacy and emotional give and take of regular, extended face-to face time. The ease of electronic communication may be making teens less interested in face-to-face conversations, which lead to bad consequences. People who study relationships believe that good friendships that we develop as a child show us how to have healthy and lasting adult relationships. The Brain On Love Essay - 1582 Words
A person really only falls in love once. Following someone so blindly, not another care in the world but that special someone. Spinning and spinning, falling toward the only thing in focus, everything else blurred by the spin. The security of that clear image can do no wrong. Falling, whether in slow motion or at high speed, until finding oneself swept into a perpetual fall, hopelessly in love with whoever the heart picks, not remembering how one had gotten there, and to not care, because all that is known is bliss. How romantic this all seems, the young girl falling into the arms of the fast becoming man. Two people stumbling along unbeknownst of their fate, finding their soul mates in a blissful utopia. This is true love.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Once in conversation with its potential mate, the brain needing to show its eligibility, sends signals for the skin to sweat, the face to flush, and the glands in the scalp to release more oil (Alberts). However unfortunate th ese effects may seem at the time, they give a warm glow, healthy color, and extra shine, all in an effort to look more appealing. The pupils dilate, taking in everything it can of the potential mate (Alberts). As more adrenaline, testosterone, and estrogen are released throughout this first meeting, the body remembers these exhilarating feelings. The dopamine activates the bodys reward system, reminding it where it can get more of these chemicals that it is beginning to crave (Bozarth). After a relationship begins, feelings move beyond initial attraction and enter the love bubble. It is that perpetual fall of being hopelessly in love. The brains perfect combination for the perfect, unpoppable bubble: norepinephrine, adrenaline, phenylethylamine, endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine. The norepinephrine heightens attention, stimulates the production of adrenaline, and promotes goal oriented behavior (Smiga). This is the chemical to blame for narrowing the mental focus and caus ing sleepless nights, constantly fixated on that special someone (Smiga). As it stimulates the production of adrenaline, the heart rate and blood pressure rise (Sonstroem). Civic Engagement Voting, TV, and Efficacy Essay Example For Students
Civic Engagement: Voting, TV, and Efficacy Essay Civic Engagement: Voting, TV, and Efficacy Abstract Well known is the fact that active participation in America has gone down. Voting, especially, has been affected. Literature and statistics on voting behavior have demonstrated these shocking results. But lack of voting is simply the beginning, several factors affect civic engagement among those are the negative perceptions of politics received through televised media. This study found that several factors of significance with respect to efficacy, amount of TV watching, politician trust, and differences in gender factors. Though Robert Putnamââ¬â¢s suggestion of too much television does hold true, other factors can be predictors as well. Introduction America was founded on the idea of democracy. As Piven and Cloward put it, ââ¬Å"Americans generally take for granted that ours is the very model of democracyâ⬠(2000). There seems to be an evident breakdown in American politics, the electorate is voting less than they did in previous generations (Putnam 2000). I question whether this is the beginning of a massive breakdown in American politics or simply a flux in the activity of the people. In sorting through much of the research on political opinions and voting very little is clear. Theorist and researchers differ on what is the major factor in the decline of voting in America. An influential idea provided by Robert Putnam was the increase in television watching and its effect on the American people. Others suggest that the growing economic inequality in American lives. But we are working with people who can be very surprising and strange as maybe the outcomes. I try to look at many factors that may indicate some reasons to what a portion of the population . . the American Electorate Eighth Ed. Washington D.C.: Congressional Quarterly Press. Musical Analysis free essay sample
Throughout time there have been thousands of composers and millions of pieces of music created by these artists. To list all of these great people would probably take a lifetime to do. So with great pains, I have narrowed my list down to Just five; John Phillip Souza, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Gershwin, Frederic Chopin and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Stars and Stripes Forever by J. P. Souza performed by the U. S. Marine band is a arching tune used by high school, college and military bands. The song has heavy percussion beats to help musicians keep In step with the music. The melody Is very strong so that the band can be heard from a distance. The tone and texture of the piece Is very Blvd and demand attention from the audience while being played. Even though this piece Is demanding and exact, I Like that It flows easily and makes me want to follow along with the band. We will write a custom essay sample on Musical Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin is a slow yet quick easy listening blues piece. It has complex syncopated rhythmic movement with very little dead areas. It is minor key driven giving the melody more emphasis. The texture has lots of dynamic highs and lows that keep the listener entertained. I like this piece of music because it is suspenseful, but gives away its own answers. I have listened to this piece many times as well as others of Gershwins. He is truly a remarkable composer. The Double Harpsichord Concerto in C Major by J. S. Bach performed by David Garrett Is a relatively smooth Baroque piece. In this arrangement, one of the ripcords Is replaced by a violin. To me, It Is Like listening to a conversation between good friends. They speak to each other so easily and compliment the other one. The tone between the harpsichord and the violin move like a knife through butter. I really like how mellow the rhythm is. I just want to kick back and close my eyes and let the world float away. Revolution Etude in C Minor by Frederic Chopin is a technical masterpiece of the Romantic Era. Both his melody and harmony in this piece is so elaborate that sometimes it is hard to follow along. The tone to me seems kind of dark or violent. It makes me feel like I am in the middle of a melodrama and this is the music for the moustache twirling bad guy. Even though I find it a pleasant piece, I do not find it calming. I feel rather tense and am anticipating the end of the piece, like the end will never come. Last but certainly not least Is the Marriage of Figaro, Clarinet Concerto Move. 1. By W. A. Mozart. This classical piece Is very lighthearted and bouncy. When listening, I can picture ballerinas all over the stage floating through the air.The harmony and of fact and leaves the listener knowing that the story is done. The violins set an upbeat tone that invites the listener to stay longer. I really am fond of this piece and love that when it is over, I am feeling good and I am ready to hear more. It really was very hard to decide who I would critique. I am extremely fond of all these composers and their music. There were so many that needed a voice, but maybe another time. One great pleasure in my life is that I get to hear them regularly as I work, study or play. Musical Analysis free essay sample It was performed by Alden Advertorial (2009). Chopin was a composer In the Romantic period. This is a sad piano piece. Chopin wrote primarily for the piano. The piece range was almost monotone in nature. The sound was in scale rising and lowering using the same melody throughout the piece. The tones were kept uniform repeating over and over again. I found this piece of music one dimensional. It was dark and depressing in nature. It is not music that I would seek out to relax and enjoy.Piece number two was composed by Johannes Brahms POP. 49 No. 4 Wellsville / Lullaby written In the romantic period. This piece was performed by Ads Slovakia Concertmaster (2007), I found this music comforting an familiar. Concertmaster performed this from the original composition on the violin. I played this music to my children and my grandchildren to relax them and put them to sleep, singing the lyrics, as my mother sang to me. We will write a custom essay sample on Musical Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The melody was arithmetic and soothing to my ears. Johannes Brahms repeated the same tones in the beginning, middle, ending. I was able to discern both the violin and harp in the music, mimicking each other. The lullaby has so many precious memories for me, I cannot help feeling Joy with this music. Moving on to the Classical Period I chose to listen to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Requiem, conducted by Karl Boom (2007). This piece had much more depth in texture and tonality. Mozart raised and lowered the power of the piece using both instrumental diversity and note volume to emphasize the piece. Listening to this piece brought me memories of going to the cathedral with my Grandmother. The inure mass was sung In Latin, so It was the music that led you to understanding the mass. The beginning of the piece was sad changing the tone to almost a jubilation or celebration of life. I enjoyed this piece immensely. My second classical selection is Ludwig Von Beethovens Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor, performed by Ellison Believable (2010). This is a piano piece with complexity in the melody I find myself feeling melancholy. I cannot help but feel that there was deep sorrow In the person who wrote this music. It Is almost that the person was lost amidst his sorrow. The melody repeats Itself but Is different though out the performance. I almost wanted to find this person and hug them to remove such pain from their life. I was strangely mesmerism, unsure whether to enjoy the music or turn away from the pain. From the Baroque Period I selected one of my favorite pieces, Sebastian Bach Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Pop. 67 (2011). There is a complexity in Bachs compositions that I have not heard in the other composure. I felt energize and excited by this rendition. Bach uses Texture, tonality, melody, and complexity In this piece. The range of emotions changes from moment to moment. It Is whimsical at one moment, changing veracity in a moment notice.

press censorship essays
press censorship essays There are many kinds of censorship within our school system. Such as press Censorship, we aren't aloud to express freely among our schools newspaper nor yearbook. I believe that we should be able to write anything that the student wants to see on the newspaper. Equivalent to the yearbook, students should be able to have the right tosay whatever they want for a SENIOR quote. Freedom of the press ensures Americans great freedom of choice in what they can read and see. This should also apply to our community public schools, we should be given the right inside school just as much as outside. Its like a fellow classmate said today in class, "Its like we are not in America anymore when we step onto school grounds." I believe in this point that he made because it is just like that. Our freedoms are limited in a way to where we can barely express ourselves within the school newspapers and yearbook. One type of publication that has never been given First Amendment protection is obscenity. This is one thing that I can agree with; certain things are absolutely immoral and inappropriate, such as pornography and foul language to an extent. However, the rules and regulations of our schools newspaper and yearbook need to be a little more just, to fit our rights of press. I would like our school to be among the first to allow the students almost every right to print whatever they would like to write about. But, not every freedom is absolute.... If they were, our school system would be in total chaos. ...

I WILL TALK THIS IN DETAIL (this is not a topic) - Thesis Example of garbage in landfills pose dangers not just because of the formation of noxious gases but also the possibility of burying anyone alive if the pile becomes too heavy. Due to the many problems caused by the use of conventional, limiting and non-renewable resources to produce products, the environment faces challenges that may soon be the cause of the ruin of man. However, by carefully planning the methods and actions of manufacturing as well as the use of other alternative methods in the production of items, with the idea of being as eco-friendly as possible, the output of large amounts of industrial wastes can be lessened, and even be reversed. In the book entitled ââ¬Å"Cradle to Cradleâ⬠, authors William McDonough and Michael Braungart were able to show through various theories and practical applications on how to create industries that sustain life and the environment, as well as being able to reuse resources and reduce production costs while maintaining product quality. One thing special about the two authors is that they have truly put their hearts and minds to the concept that they have s strong belief in, even their book itself is not made of paper, but rather of a special kind of plastic that contains inorganic resin, making the book strong, smudge-proof as well as waterproof. By making their book as such, the authors were able to prove a point that yes, the concept of sustainability and being friendly to the earth and the ecosystems can be possible, with planning. The concept of cradle-to-cradle is the brainchild of the environmental advocacy of the authors to promote renewable, sustainable and ecological-friendly industries. Instead of following the usual method of using non-renewable and non-sustainable resources, following the old opportunistic design of industries, as well as following the traditional methods of manufacturing that keeps using raw materials but rarely recycles anything else, by following the authorsââ¬â¢ methods of using

Image Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Image Analysis - Essay Example The society he represented became known and understood through some of his famous works (Jackson 79). It made them, as people, proud to know they had representation in the form of an artist. This paper will examine one photograph by Carlos Bernal, and the concept behind the image. It was after receiving funding from the Mexican American Legal Defence that prompted Carlos to follow the path of photography. He had the experience after joining the faculty at the college and developed the institutionââ¬â¢s photograph program. This funding enabled Carlos and a few other faculty members, to explore the possibility of bringing out the subculture of society through photography. In the following photograph, Carlos decided to capture the Martinez brothers in a candy store. Through such photographs, he brought out the family ties, and the life they led. This was the spiritual and cultural journey Carlos set out to achieve with the belief of making everyone understand the nature of a subcultu re (Kaplan 165). Analysis of the image Images people see in photographs often have a consistent and recurrent structure (Debroise 176). This is based on the standards of the camera setting, and how it may be placed. In the image of the Martinez brothers, Carlos decided to take the picture while behind a glass frame. He did this so as to capture some of the products that the candy store also had to offer. By putting these two together, the audience gets to understand the closeness of the family relations, and ties to this economic activity. Carlos often tied his subjects to material possessions in order to capture a way of life. Photographs that have the ability to do this often bring out more than just colour and imagery into the mind of the audience. He understands the innovation of having his subjects in a photograph surrounding themselves with treasured possessions. Many at times, this further leads to a superior understanding of the subjects (Debroise 187). One can respect the s ubjects based on the things that surround them, hence; one might try to find a deeper meaning to the image presented. In the Martinez photograph, the two children appear oblivious of the photographerââ¬â¢s intention. This means that their emotions are displayed genuinely. He did not have to tell them to smile for the camera or pretend to do anything. Such works often depict the subjectââ¬â¢s emotions and what they are thinking. His technical expertise is seen in the way he brings out the candyââ¬â¢s bright colours. The audience may be drawn to the candy, but not too much because; they might lose focus of the primary objective. The clothes, the Martinez brothers wore showed of the daily attire the subculture wore during daily life. It is such unawareness displayed by the brothers that brings out the daily life of the subculture. In most subcultures, the mode of dressing is an enormous aspect because it brings out how individuals chose to live their lives, and how they prefer to relate to each other (Debroise 216). The imageââ¬â¢s compositional design brings out the colour of their clothes perfectly. In his subsequent images, one gets to see the evolution of the sub-cultureââ¬â¢s mode of dressing. In the image, the audience gets to see of the age difference that exists between the two brothers. It is through such imagery that Carlos brought out the distinct way of life of the
